Built for Larger, More Demanding Connections

Fernco 5000 Series RC Couplings combine a flexible elastomeric sleeve, molded-in bushing, stainless steel shield, and corrosion-resistant clamp system to create strong underground transitions between common sewer pipe materials.

  • Resistance to Earth Loads and Shear Forces: The stainless steel shield helps reinforce the connection and improve pipe alignment in demanding underground installations.
  • Corrosion-Resistant Components: 316 stainless steel clamp bands provide added durability in harsh underground environments.
  • Molded-In Bushing: The coupling is manufactured around the required pipe transition, creating a purpose-built connection between different outside diameters.
  • Multiple Pipe Materials: Available for transitions involving clay, concrete, cast iron, ductile iron, plastic, steel, and lead.

Strength Added Where the Connection Needs It

Each component of the 5000 Series is designed to support secure underground installation, dependable sealing, and improved resistance to external loads.

Stainless Steel Shield

A .012" thick, 300 series stainless steel shear ring reinforces the coupling and helps distribute shear forces across the connection.

316 Stainless Steel Bands

Corrosion-resistant clamp bands provide dependable clamping performance in demanding underground environments.

Molded-In Pipe Transition

The molded-in bushing creates a transition between differing pipe outside diameters without relying on a loose, separately positioned reducer.

Larger-Diameter Clamp Design

Dual Nut-and-Bolt Take-Up Points

For 6" and larger couplings, each clamp band incorporates two nut-and-bolt take-up points to support secure installation and consistent clamping around larger pipe diameters.

  • Two Take-Up Points Per Band: Helps distribute clamping force around the circumference of the larger coupling.
  • Secure Installation: The nut-and-bolt design provides controlled tightening at the specified installation torque.
  • 60 In.-Lbs. Installation Torque: Supports repeatable installation across the coupling clamp system.

The 5000 Series provides shielded underground connections across a range of common sewer pipe materials and outside diameters.

Important: The 5000 Series is not promoted as AIS or BABA compliant. Select the coupling based on pipe materials, outside diameters, and project performance requirements.

5000 Series RC Couplings

Coupling

  • Standards: Manufactured to conform to ASTM C1173 and CSA B602 performance requirements.
  • Installation Torque: 60 in.-lbs.
  • Maximum Test Pressure: 4.3 PSI (29.6 kPa).
  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 140°F, non-continuous.

Gasket

  • Material Requirements: CSA B602, ASTM D5926, and ASTM C1173.
  • Hardness: Shore A 65 ±5.
  • Tensile Strength: 1,000 PSI minimum.
  • Elongation at Rupture: 250% minimum.
  • Tear Strength: 150 lb./in.
  • Brittleness Temperature: -40°F.

Clamp and Shield

  • Clamp Bands: 316 stainless steel.
  • Large-Diameter Design: Two nut-and-bolt take-up points per band on 6" and larger couplings.
  • Shear Ring: .012" thick, 300 series stainless steel.
  • Shield Width: Manufactured according to the coupling width.
